The project brief was to link the existing 1960's church and hall with a covered access and provide overflow capacity for large services, as well as upgrading the kitchen and other services. Through discussion with the client, the brief was expanded to include a central meeting space, improved access to the vestry and church office, and enhance the street presence to both frontages. The final design involved a complex roof supported off a single line of structural steel columns angled between the two buildings. The space was designed to include an airlock against strong winds, natural ventilation, disabled access, and rationalise movement into and through the building, whilst not competing with the architectural character of the church. The project was completed in 2008.
